C-Voter Survey: Naidu on Cloud Nine

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who has been relentlessly trying to bring his party back to power in the state by taking up a marathon padayatra for the last six months, has at last some good news to cheer about.

A pre-election survey conducted by popular agency - Centre for Voting Opinion & Trends in Election Research (CVOTER) – recently has predicted that there would be fractured mandate in the Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh. According to this survey, the Congress would get just eight Lok Sabha seats as against 33 in 2009; whereas the YSR Congress party would get as many as 12 MP seats.

However, the good news for Naidu is that the survey has predicted as many as nine MP seats for the TDP and an equal number of seats for the TRS. It does mean, the TDP would improve its tally by three seats compared to 2009. This is contrary to the general observation in the media circles that the TDP might not win more than two or three seats. Naturally, Naidu must be on cloud nine on watching this survey.

However, it is a bit disappointment for YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and his party supporters as they were expecting that it would win not less than 22-25 MP seats. More than that, they are not able to digest the prediction that the TDP would get nine MP seats. So, leaders like Ambati Rambabu have questioned the credibility of the survey agency, forgetting the fact that the same agency had predicted 16 seats for the party in the last by-elections to the state assembly!
