KJP fields lightweights against Nirani, Bommai

The KJP has fielded political novices against B S Yeddyurappa’s one-time loyalists - Basavaraj Bommai and Murugesh Nirani - in Shiggaon and Bilagi, respectively.

The party released its fifth list of 28 candidates taking the total number of constituencies for which candidates have been announced to 197.

While the party has fielded Bapugouda Kashinathgouda Patil from Shiggaon, it has fielded Mallikarjun Angadi from Bilagi. Both will be testing the electoral waters for the first time in the May 5 Assembly polls.

Yeddyurappa was keenly anticipating Bommai and Nirani to quit the BJP and join the KJP. However, both decided to remain in the BJP.

The KJP will field Mahadevaswamy from Hanur Assembly constituency in Chamarajanagar district, putting to rest reports that Yeddyurappa had planned to field his younger son B Y Vijayendra from there.

The constituency was being nurtured for another of Yeddyurappa’s one-time loyalists V Somanna. However, Somanna decided to stay in the BJP and will contest from Vijayanagar in Bangalore.

Sources said Yeddyurappa is in touch with former JD(S) legislator Kalpana Siddaraju with an offer to her to join the KJP.
