Modi to campaign in Karnataka

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who had skipped central election committee meetings which had decided the Karnataka Assembly election party tickets, will be campaigning in the State after all.

"He will campaign in all places. He will campaign in the whole country," BJP president Rajnath Singh told reporters when asked the confirm the tour. Though the constituencies Modi plans to tour are still being decided, BJP sources explained that he is expected to campaign in Karnataka from April 28.

Insiders, however, indicated that Modi may be reluctant to campaign for the BJP, considering doubts that the party may not come to power. “If that happens, the outcome will cast a shadow on Modi’s charisma outside his state and provide ammunition to other parties including Congress to puncture the bloated notion about him,” sources said.

The party president also dispelled rumors that the BJP and JD(U) will part ways owing to the latter’s doubts about projecting Modi as the face of the party in the coming polls. "Whatever happens and whenever it happens, we will sit together," Singh said.

Singh is also said to have conducted a meeting of the spokespersons, cautioning them not to publicize the verbal spat between the two parties as it would divert focus on attacking the Congress-led UPA on corruption and failures. He has also convened a meeting of the Bihar unit of the party to discuss poll preparedness on April 18. The party state unit is also upset with Nitish Kumar’s attack on Modi.
